I live with a narcissist and I so relate. I think psychology has got things rather mixed up — it may be so that most people possess narcissistic characteristics but it assumes that only a small percentage “really” have it. The fact that most people call others out on it may not be made up. Rather than poopooing it shouldn’t this be studied? There is something amiss in society and we need to look at the causes. I say it’s money — money has trained us to think of ourselves only. Money rewards selfishness. Indeed money is designed to reward it and hence narcissism is the product of that. Notice the psychiatric industry has no studies on what money does to our brain? Nothing — psychiatry is moot on it. And yet money is the single most influential factor in the history of the world! But it does have a diagnosis for children who don’t pay attention in the school system which is usually rigid and dogmatic. My dears — we have been led down the garden path with industrial psychiatry and psychology. Narcissism is rife but the “experts” don’t want to face it.
